Mandatory One Time Registration (OTR) #
Before proceeding with the online application, it is compulsory for all candidates to complete the One Time Registration (OTR) process on the Commission’s portal (https://otr.pariksha.nic.in) and obtain a unique OTR Number. Candidates who have not completed OTR must do so at least 72 hours before the final date for online application submission. The OTR Number is essential to apply online, as personal details are auto-filled from the OTR profile into the application form. Changes to OTR details require synchronization on the dashboard before applying. Important communications from the Commission will be sent to the mobile number and email ID registered in the OTR profile.

Eligibility Criteria #
Candidates must satisfy the following eligibility conditions:
- Age Limit: As on July 1, 2025, candidates must have attained the age of 35 years and must not have exceeded the age of 50 years. This means candidates should have been born not earlier than July 2, 1975, and not later than July 1, 1990.
- Age Relaxation: Upper age limit relaxation is available for candidates domiciled in Uttar Pradesh as follows:
- 5 years: For Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and State Government Employees (including Teachers/Staff of Basic Shiksha Parishad and Government Aided Madhyamik Vidyalayas).
- 15 years: For Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) of U.P.
- 3 years + Period of service in Army: For Emergency Commissioned Officers/Short Service Commissioned Officers/Ex-Army Personnel of U.P. (provided they are discharged from the Army by the application deadline). Special conditions apply for ECOs/SSCOs whose service is extended for rehabilitation.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess the essential qualification for the post by the last date specified for submitting online applications.
- Essential Qualification for Principal:
- Ph.D. AND First Class at either Bachelor’s or Master’s level in a relevant discipline (as per AICTE approved Diploma Courses list) AND Minimum 16 years of experience in teaching (degree or diploma level), research, or industry, including at least 3 years of post-Ph.D. experience and 5 years of experience not below the level of Head of Department (HOD).

- First Class at Bachelor’s or Master’s level in a relevant discipline (as per AICTE approved Diploma Courses list) AND Minimum 20 years of experience in teaching (degree or diploma level), research, or industry, including at least 5 years of experience not below the level of Head of Department (HOD).
- Equivalent Qualifications: If a class/division is not awarded, a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate will be considered equivalent to a First Class. If a Grade Point System is used, CGPA will be converted to equivalent marks based on a specified scale (e.g., 6.25 CGPA = 55%, 6.75 CGPA = 60%, 7.25 CGPA = 65%, 7.75 CGPA = 70%, 8.25 CGPA = 75%).
- Essential Qualification for Principal:
- Preferential Qualification: A candidate who has served in the Territorial Army for a minimum period of two years OR has obtained a ‘B’ certificate of National Cadet Corps will be given preference in direct recruitment, if other things are equal.
- Marital Status: Male candidates with more than one living wife and female candidates married to a person with a living wife are generally ineligible unless exempted by the Hon’ble Governor.
- Hindi Knowledge: Knowledge of Hindi is implicitly required for working in the state.
Reservation and Special Provisions #
- Uttar Pradesh Domicile: Reservation and age relaxation benefits are generally provided only to candidates who are permanent residents (domiciled) of Uttar Pradesh. Candidates from outside U.P. are treated as Unreserved/General category.
- Category Claim: Candidates seeking reservation must declare their category/sub-category accurately in their OTR profile, as this information is transferred to the application form. No changes to category claims will be accepted after the application deadline.
- Certificates: Candidates must possess valid certificates from a competent authority in the prescribed formats issued by the U.P. Government for claiming reservation (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD/DFF/Skilled Player). These certificates must be produced when requested by the Commission. For women candidates, the caste certificate issued from the father’s side is considered valid.
- EWS Reservation: A 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) is applicable as per state government rules. EWS certificate must be valid for the financial year prior to the application year.
- Multiple Benefits: Candidates eligible for reservation/age relaxation under more than one category will receive only one such concession, whichever is most beneficial.
- Adjustment: Reserved category candidates will be considered against unreserved vacancies if they do not avail any benefit/concession in the qualifying standards at any stage of the examination.
Compensation #
The recruited Principals will be placed in Pay Level-13A1, with an Entry Pay of Rs. 131400/-. The Pay Scale ranges from a minimum of Rs. 131400/- to a maximum of Rs. 204700/-. In addition to the basic pay, candidates will be eligible for other allowances as per the rules of the Uttar Pradesh Government for Group ‘A’ Gazetted officers.
Selection Process #
The selection process for the Principal post involves the following stages:
- Application Process: Online application submission, fee payment, and printing the final form. Followed by hard copy submission of the form and documents when specifically requested by the Commission.
- Written Examination: Candidates will appear for a written examination. Only candidates declared successful in the written exam will be called for the interview.
- Personal Interview: Based on the written exam results, approximately three times the number of vacancies will be called for an interview. It is mandatory to appear for the interview.
- Document Verification: Original certificates verifying eligibility claims will be verified at the time of the interview or as directed by the Commission. Failure to produce required documents in time will lead to cancellation of candidature.
- Medical Examination: Selected candidates will undergo a medical examination as per the applicable rules.
- Final Selection: The final selection list will be prepared based on the combined marks obtained by candidates in the Written Examination and the Personal Interview.
Examination Pattern and Syllabus #
The recruitment for the Principal post includes a Written Examination consisting of two objective-type question papers and a Personal Interview.
- Written Exam Instructions:
- Candidates must use only Black Ball Point Pens for filling the OMR Answer Sheets.
- All required information on the OMR sheet must be correctly filled by blackening the appropriate circles. Evaluation is based solely on correctly blackened circles. Use of whitener, blade, pin, or rubber on the OMR sheet is prohibited.
- OMR Answer Sheets will be in three copies: Original (Pink), Preserved (Green), and Candidate’s Copy (Blue). Candidates must take their copy after the exam.
- Negative Marking: In the objective type papers, a penalty of one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Answering more than one option is treated as incorrect. No penalty for unanswered questions.
- Minimum Efficiency Standard: SC/ST candidates must secure a minimum of 35% marks in the examination to be included in the merit/select list. For all other categories, the minimum efficiency standard is 40%. Candidates scoring less than the minimum standard are considered disqualified.
- Syllabus Overview (Based on Appendix-3):
- General Hindi: Focuses on Hindi grammar (vowels, consonants, parts of speech, gender, number, prefixes, suffixes), vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, multiple meaning words, word pairs, meanings), spelling and sentence correction, Tatsam-Tadbhav words, idioms and proverbs, Sandhi, Samas, and punctuation.
- General Studies-I: Covers Indian History and the Indian National Movement, World and Indian Geography (Physical and Human aspects), Indian Polity and Constitution (basic knowledge), Environment (modern concepts, pollution, management, ethics), Disaster Management (concept, types, management in India), and current events of national and international importance.
- General Studies-II: Includes General Engineering and Technology (Computer basics, construction, materials, solar energy, mechanics, engines, pumps, material science), Science (Physics topics – mechanics, optics, sound, electricity, modern physics; Chemistry topics – general chemistry, inorganic/organic chemistry, extraction, compounds, concepts like bonding, thermodynamics, equilibrium, solutions, electrolysis), Social Justice (dimensions of weaker sections in India/U.P., welfare schemes, social sector issues – health, education, human resources, poverty, hunger, unemployment), and Ethics & Integrity (philosophical concepts, ethical judgments, values, moral philosophy, codes of ethics/conduct, malpractice).
Application Fee #
The examination fee, which is non-refundable and includes the online processing fee, varies based on the candidate’s category. Payment is mandatory online by the specified last date.

How to Apply Online #
The online application process is integrated with the OTR system and involves four main stages:
- Authentication with OTR (First Stage): Visit the UPPSC website (https://uppsc.up.nic.in), click “ALL NOTIFICATIONS/ ADVERTISEMENTS,” find the advertisement, and click “Apply.” Authenticate using your OTR number via OTP or password. Your personal details will auto-fill. Fill in the required essential qualification.
- Application Part-2 (Second Stage): After successful authentication, the “Applicant Dashboard” appears. Click “Submit Details” under “Application Part-2” for the applied post. Your address details will be displayed, and you will indicate your eligibility for preferential qualifications.
- Fee Payment (Third Stage): After completing the previous steps, the “Fee Confirmation Window” appears. Proceed to the ‘SBI MOPS’ gateway by clicking “Yes” to pay the examination fee online using Net Banking, Card Payments, or other available modes. Take a printout of the Payment Transaction Slip.
- Print Final Application Form (Fourth Stage): Upon successful fee payment, the final application form will be displayed on the screen. Print this form and keep it safely for your records.
Candidates can modify qualification details in the submitted application form only once via the Candidate Dashboard before the correction deadline (02.06.2025). Incomplete applications or those without fee payment/photo/signature will be rejected.
Hard Copy Submission #
Unlike some other UPPSC recruitments, the hard copy of the online application form along with self-attested photocopies of all mark sheets and certificates should NOT be sent to the Commission immediately after online submission or at the stage of examination. Candidates will be informed later, through a separate press communique published by the Commission, regarding when and how to submit the hard copy and supporting documents.
Joining Process #
Candidates selected for appointment based on the final merit list will be required to undergo a Medical Examination as per the prevailing rules before the formal joining process in the respective department.
